Commercial and public

Schools, parks, yards, and everything with a project manager attached

Commercial fence work is a different job from residential, and not because the fence is different. It is the submittals, the certificates, the coordination with three other trades, and a schedule that cannot move. Willard Fence Co. is licensed (CSLB #1095092), bonded, and insured, and public and commercial fencing around Chico is a standing part of the work.

What we bid

  • School and district perimeters, play yards, and field enclosures
  • Parks, sport courts, ballfields, and public recreation facilities
  • Utility, municipal, and equipment yards with security tops
  • Storage facilities, contractor yards, and truck parking
  • Solar sites, well sites, and pump station enclosures
  • Dumpster and enclosure screening, bollards, and access gates
  • Temporary construction and event fence

Security, in the order it actually matters

Height first, then fabric gauge, then the top, then the bottom. A tall fence with light fabric gets cut; heavy fabric on a short fence gets climbed. The bottom is where most people forget: a fence with a gap under it is a fence with a door in it, so tension wire, a bottom rail, or a concrete mow strip finishes the job.

  • 9 gauge fabric on anything a person might climb
  • Barbed arm, three strand, or coiled top where the property calls for it
  • Tension wire, bottom rail, or mow strip so nothing goes under
  • Slats and windscreen where the requirement is screening rather than security
  • Crash rated and heavy duty gates where vehicles are the concern

Working with a GC

On a construction project the fence is usually the first thing on site and one of the last things finished. We are used to that: temporary fence at mobilization, permanent fence after the paving and the landscape, and a punch list walk at the end. Certificates of insurance, W-9, and license verification go out with the bid rather than after three emails.

Public work

Districts, cities, and parks departments have their own requirements: prevailing wage on many projects, DIR registration, bid bonds on some, and specific submittal packages. We bid that work and are set up to do it.

Questions we get

Yes. CSLB #1095092, C-13 Fencing, with a contractor bond and workers compensation in force. Certificates go out with the bid.

Yes. Public work with prevailing wage and DIR requirements is part of what we bid.

Yes, and it is usually the cleanest way to run it: one contractor, one point of contact, and the temporary fence comes out as the permanent fence goes in.

Butte, Glenn, and Tehama counties routinely, and further south into Yuba-Sutter for a project of real size. Ask.
